S-H Girls Reach District; St. George’s Boys Fall Shy

One year after a 5-16 finish, Sprague-Harrington’s girls are bound for the District 7-B Tournament.

Kristy Engles scored 22 points Tuesday to guide the Falcons (14-8) over Odessa 53-36 in a loser-out game at the Bi-County League Tournament in Reardan.

S-H meets Reardan at 5:45 Thursday night to decide the third and fourth seeds to district.

Odessa finished 8-13.

The tourney becomes double-elimination and shifts to Mead High School on Friday. Colfax meets ninth-ranked Newport (18-2) at 7.

Brodie Larson’s offense and Zack Kinney’s defense barred St. George’s from a shot at defending its title.

Larson scored 25 points and Kinney held Panorama League scoring champion Dan Kuney (21.1 ppg) to 13 as the Rangers (17-5) beat visiting St. George’s in a Panorama League Tournament winner-to-district, loser-out game at Ione.

Selkirk meets Springdale (16-7) at 8 tonight in Colville to determine third and fourth district seeds. The Dragons (14-9) won the league and district titles last year, then placed second at state.
