Hendrix Album To Be Released

Fred Shuster Los Angeles Daily News

MCA Records has entered into a long-term agreement with the estate of Jimi Hendrix and will release the legendary “First Rays of the New Rising Sun” album, the last disc recorded by the guitarist before his death in 1970.

While the album’s tracks have been previously released, the MCA package will be the first time they are presented together on the same album as originally conceived by Hendrix.

The CD will be in stores April 22.

In addition to “First Rays,” the three studio albums released during the guitarist’s lifetime - “Are You Experienced?” “Axis: Bold as Love” and “Electric Ladyland” - are planned for reissue on the same date with restored original artwork.

The agreement between MCA and the Hendrix family-owned Experience Hendrix company further establishes a joint venture record label which allows the company to sign and develop acts under a new Experience Hendrix imprint.

The deal marks the first time Hendrix’s timeless recordings will be released under the authority and direction of the Hendrix family.

All CDs will be remastered by Eddie Kramer, the original engineer on Hendrix’s recording dates.

“We are very happy that our family can finally direct how Jimi’s music is presented and preserved,” said Al Hendrix, the late guitarist’s father.

“We are particularly pleased that MCA Records … holds the same care, respect and reverence for his music that we do. It feels (like) Jimi has come home.”
