Angela Jackson scored 23 points as No. 9 Texas withstood 39 by Alicia Thompson while beating 14th-ranked Texas Tech 72-61 Saturday at Austin, Texas, to avenge its worst loss this season.

Texas (19-5, 11-3 Big 12) led by as many as 22 points and was up 61-42 with 10:42 to play when the Raiders staged a late rally.

Thompson scored 17 straight points during a 19-7 run that ended when Rene Hanebutt made a layup with 1:22 to play, but Texas Tech got no closer than 68-61.

Thompson also pulled down 11 rebounds for the Raiders (17-7, 9-5) but missed six free throws during the late run.

On Feb. 5, Tech pounded Texas 96-73 in Lubbock behind a career-high 47 points from Thompson. It was the fourth-highest total ever allowed by the Longhorns.

On Saturday, Texas used defense to dictate the pace of the game. Edwina Brown had seven steals, and she and Amie Smith harassed Thompson into five turnovers.

Brown and Danielle Viglione added 11 points apiece.
