North Carolina Stays Undefeated At Home

Chanel Wright scored 22 points and Tracy Reid had 19 Sunday as No. 4 North Carolina beat No. 11 Virginia 70-65 at Chapel Hill, N.C.

Jessica Gaspar added 13 points to help North Carolina (24-2, 15-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) finish its regular season undefeated at home.

The Tar Heels head to Charlotte as the No. 1 seed in this week’s ACC tournament.

Virginia (20-6, 12-4) was led by Tiffany Bowers’ 21 points. Tora Suber had 15 and Mimi McKinney 14.

Virginia trailed 60-56 after two free throws by DeMya Walker with 4:31 left to play, but Reid scored five unanswered points over the next 1:26 and Virginia never got closer than five points in the closing seconds.

Virginia hit 24 of 52 from the field and dominated North Carolina on the boards 41-28. But North Carolina had 15 steals and took advantage of 25 turnovers.

Tracy Henderson scored 24 points and blocked four shots and the Bulldogs (22-4, 11-1) pulled away from a halftime tie to beat the visiting Razorbacks (17-9, 5-7) at Athens, Ga., to clinch the Southeastern Conference regular-season title.

La’Keshia Frett scored 21 points and Kedra Holland-Corn added 15. Kimberly Wilson led Arkansas with 15 points and Messer added 13.

Shalonda Enis had 28 points, 11 rebounds and four steals for the Crimson Tide (22-5, 10-2 Southeastern Conference) in their win over the visiting Commodores (17-9, 6-6).
