Liechtenstein’s Ruler Backs Legalized Drugs

Compiled From Wire Services

Drugs should be legalized for adults because current policies have done nothing but create cartels and make huge profits for them, the ruler of Liechtenstein says.

Prince Hans-Adam II outlined his proposal Monday.

“Young people should be protected from the drug market,” he said. “But from 18 or 20, a person should be free to decide to consume drugs.”

People could buy and consume drugs only in special areas under the control of the state, he suggested, saying heroin, cocaine or ecstasy could be sold for below black market prices. The state would buy the drugs directly from the producers, eliminating the need for cartels.
