Old Man Leonard A Slight Favorite To Beat Camacho
Sugar Ray Leonard’s reaction to the various reasons given for his comeback after six years in retirement is as straight and solid as a sharp left jab.
“Damn it, I want to do this, and I’m going to do it,” said the 40-year-old.
“If I can tarnish my legacy with one fight, then there never was a legacy. To say it’s a one-shot deal, I don’t even want to talk about that. To say I’m going to lose, I don’t discuss it.”
The last time Leonard fought, he was knocked down twice in losing a one-sided decision to Terry Norris in a bid for the WBC super welterweight title Feb. 9, 1991.
He left boxing a beaten favorite, and he returns a favorite - a lukewarm 7-5 choice over Hector Camacho for the fringe IBC middleweight title Saturday night at the Convention Center.
