Kenneth Thompson Receives Promotion

Air Force staff sergeant Kenneth P. Thompson, son of Lynne Johnson of Post Falls, was recently promoted to his current rank.

Thompson is a command control communications and computer system programmer at Ramstein Air Force Base, Ramstein, Germany.

Navy Midshipman Conrad C. Bicknell, a 1996 high school graduate from Bonners Ferry, has received a Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps full scholarship while serving with Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Unit, Virginia Military Institute, Lexington.

Bicknell, who will receive tuition for classes, books and uniforms, will be commissioned as an officer in the Navy or Marine Corps after graduation.

Navy Cmdr. David C. Lyon, son of Wilbur and Joan Lyon of Hayden Lake, recently reported for duty at Naval Space Command, Dahlgren, Va.

Lyon, a 1972 Coeur d’Alene High School graduate, joined the Navy in 1976 after graduating from the University of Idaho with a bachelor of science degree. He later received his master’ degree in 1988 from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif.

Amanda S. Hicks, daughter of Leona May (Hicks) Evans and Clifford Evans of Coeur d’Alene, has enlisted as a medical specialist and recently left for basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

Hicks joined the Army to earn more money.

Bryan C. Settle, son of Charles and Madeline Settle of Coeur d’Alene, has graduated from basic military training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

Settle, a 1985 Coeur d’Alene High School graduate, received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, tactics, map reading, military courtesy and justice, first aid, and Army history and traditions.
