EV Student Expelled For Handgun At School
East Valley High School expelled a freshman who brought a possibly stolen handgun to school this week.
The boy carried a 9mm pistol, with an ammunition clip, in his backpack on Wednesday, officials said. Other students told administrators about the weapon.
The ninth-grader made no threat to anyone, said Principal Jeff Miller. It’s unclear whether the boy’s intent was to show off or use the weapon.
“By the afternoon, enough students knew about it that someone told us. We appreciate that. If we didn’t have students who don’t want that garbage in their school …”
The student was arrested and charges are pending. It’s a felony to bring a gun on school grounds.
The gun may have been obtained in a burglary, Sheriff’s Deputy John Pardee said after questioning students at the school.
