Wv Wrestlers Stay Tied For Fl Lead

Dennis Blackwood’s upset pin at 190 pounds Tuesday helped West Valley remain tied for first place in Frontier League wrestling.

Blackwood trailed Cheney’s Seth Morris 11-4 early in the third period when he scored with a reversal and worked his way to a pin. The match proved important in a 42-36 win for the visiting Eagle. WV and East Valley are 3-0.

For Cheney (0-3), Tom Jud used a lateral drop to pin Luke Reeker at 215; Mike Gibson had 12 takedowns in a technical fall over Justin Demke at 141; and Gabe Schaefer (135) pinned T.J. Frampton in the first round to end the night.

Unlike WV, East Valley didn’t have to count points in a 79-0 win at Pullman (1-2). The Knights had 11 pins, including Chris Bassow’s after the 190-pounder trailed Mike Hobbs 12-1.

Completing the league schedule, Clarkston (2-1) moved into third place alone by notching six pins during a 64-7 victory over visiting Riverside (0-3).

Host Medical Lake won four of the last five matches to tie Class A-B third-ranked Lakeside 32-all in a Northeast A League meet between 3-0 teams.

Medical Lake’s Jesse Maroni beat Jason Belyea 4-1 at 108 to avenge two losses last year. Oly Mahaffey (275) of ML trailed Guy Phillops 14-10 but came back with a third-round pin. The visiting Eagles were docked a team point for unsportsmanlike conduct.
