Fast Start Fuels Trojans’ Rout Against Lakeland

Jonathan Hay Correspondent

If it has ever been safe to say that a game was over at halftime, Thursday night’s non-league boys basketball game between Post Falls and Lakeland was it.

The Trojans, leading 50-14 at the intermission, cruised to a 84-34 victory at Post Falls. The Hawks, however, did manage to win the inaugural “Prairie Pig” award given to the team with the best fan support.

“We were on fire early, and they seemed to get a little frustrated,” said Post Falls coach Scott Moore.

The Trojans scored 25 points in each of the first two quarters. PF guard Brason Alexander scored all 12 of his points in the first half. Backcourt mate Chad Quesnell was the game’s leading scorer with 22 points, half of those coming from the free-throw line.

“We were really pumped up by the crowd,” Quesnell said. “It’s the biggest crowd that I’ve ever seen here.”

Post Falls’ gym was packed to the rafters, but the fans didn’t have much to cheer about as the game was a blowout from the early minutes. The Trojans jumped to a 12-0 lead to start the game before the Hawks’ Jared Mudge scored Lakeland’s first basket with 3:25 remaining.

Post Falls (9-3 overall) continued to run it up behind the hot hand of Quesnell, one of eight seniors who have never lost a game to Lakeland.

Four Trojans scored in double figures, and the team shot 26 of 53, including eight 3-pointers.

Lakeland (4-5) got 10-point efforts from Mudge and Petra Thiringer.
