Stephen ‘Sundown Mac’ McNamee Elk

Visitation for Stephen Paul “Sundown Mac” McNamee, 68, is scheduled from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Funeral Mass is planned for 1 p.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Presentation Catholic Church in Deer Park with burial at Elk Cemetery No. 1.

Mr. McNamee, who died Wednesday, was born in Deer Park and grew up in Daisy and Northport, Wash.

In 1948 he married Bonita Nimz. They lived in Spokane until 1966.

In Spokane he worked for the Spokane Fire Department from 1953 until 1979 when he retired as a lieutenant. He also worked for Loomis Armored Car Service from 1966 until he retired to his farm in 1991.

He moved to Elk in 1966.

He was a leather crafter and a member of the Saddle, Harness and Allied Trades Association.

His wife of 46 years, Bonita McNamee, preceded him in death.

He is survived by two daughters, Paula McNamee Davis of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Dianna Newsom of Helena; four sons, David, Brian and Keith McNamee, all of Elk, and Timothy McNamee of Spokane; six brothers, Larry, Emmett, Joseph and Clyde McNamee, all of Northport, Gene McNamee of Tucson, Ariz., and Daniel Wright of Elk; three sisters, Mary Lerum of Valley, Wash., Margaret Blair of Spokane and Dorothy Wright of Elk; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or the American Cancer Society.

Patrick Wood Spokane

Memorial service for Patrick Wood, 33, is set for 11 a.m. Monday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.

Born in Spokane, Mr. Wood died Tuesday from complications related to Addison’s disease.

He spent a few years in California and then returned to Spokane and had been a manager at the Parsons Apartments.

He is survived by a brother, Michael Wood of Deer Park.

Jerry Gillis Washtucna, Wash.

Service for Jerry E. Gillis, 56, was Thursday at Washtucna Community Church. Vault burial will follow at Pioneer Memorial Cemetery in Washtucna. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gillis, who was born in Washtucna, died Monday.

He was a graduate of Rosalia (Wash.) High School and served four years in the Air Force.

He worked as an aircraft mechanic in Seattle, California and Arizona. He retired due to an illness and returned to Washtucna in 1973.

He was a member of the Washtucna Community Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Connell, Wash.

Survivors include his mother, Ruth Gillis, and a sister, Kay Trainer, both of Washtucna.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Washtucna Community Church or the American Lung Association.

Robert Whaley Spokane

Service for Robert C. Whaley, 64, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.

Mr. Whaley, who died Wednesday, was born in Janesville, Wis.

He had worked in the timber industry in Pierce, Idaho, and then moved to Spokane.

He worked as a Teamster in Spokane for 15 years and was a member of the Operating Engineers. Mr. Whaley is survived by his wife of 37 years, Judy Whaley; a daughter, Lori Otis; two sons, Michael and Joseph Whaley; a brother, Russell Whaley; and seven grandchildren.

Eunice Kirk Spokane

Service for Eunice E. Kirk, 86, was Friday at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Kirk, who died Wednesday, was born in Providence, R.I., and was a 48-year Spokane resident.

She was the bookkeeper and co-owner of the O.K. Coffee House in Spokane from 1951 to 1961. She then owned O’Kirk’s Toy Poodles Dog Grooming and Breeding until 1990. Her husband, Joseph Kirk, died in 1990.

She is survived by a daughter, Joan Bellessa of Spokane; a sister, Marjorie Oxley of Cranston, R.I; and a brother, Raymond Carpenter of Rhode Island; two grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Spokane Humane Society.

Louise Gensmann Spokane

Service for Louise Ida Emilie Gensmann, 93, is planned for 10 a.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Wausau, Wis.

Mrs. Gensmann, a 60-year Spokane resident, died Jan. 18.

She was born in Wausau and had worked as a restaurant hostess.

Her husband, Leo Gensmann, preceded her in death.

She is survived by a sister, Erna Swensden of Austin, Texas.

Helen Franklin Spokane Graveside service for Helen R. Franklin, 71, was Friday at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Franklin, who died Monday, was born in Washington state and had lived in Spokane for 50 years.

She was a certified nurses’ aide and worked in nursing homes.

She is survived by a brother, Alexander Johnson of Missoula; four daughters, Sandra Howell of Boise, Emerene Nicolaisen of Titusville, Fla., and Ida Brown and Michelle Murphy, both of Spokane; a son, Wayne Franklin of Spokane; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Harry Hanson Colfax, Wash.

Service for Harry Hanson, 71, is planned for 11 a.m Monday at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash. Burial will be at Garfield (Wash.) Cemetery.

Mr. Hanson, who died Tuesday, was born in Tekoa, Wash.

He worked for Potlatch Forests Inc. at the Potlatch mill in the early 1940s. He later worked for the Allen B. Smith Co. in Garfield, Wash., in a pea-processing plant. He retired from Berger & Plate Co. in Garfield in the early 1970s as a warehouseman.

He moved from Garfield to the Whitman Convalescent Center in Colfax in 1990.

Mr. Hanson never married.

Survivors include a brother, Glen Hanson of Salem, Ore.

Mildred Smith Coeur d’Alene

Service for Mildred E. Smith, 76, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will be at St. Thomas Catholic Church.

Mrs. Smith, who was born in Spokane, died Wednesday. She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1947 and operated a dairy farm east of Coeur d’Alene until 1967. Mrs. Smith had served as a 4-H leader.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, in 1967. Survivors include two sons, Harvey Smith of Coeur d’Alene and Doug Smith of Hayden Lake, Idaho; a daughter, Cheri Smith of Oregon; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
