East Valley Clinches A Tie For Another Title
Frontier wrestling
East Valley High School clinched at least a tie of its third consecutive Frontier League wrestling title Tuesday with a 47-16 win at Colville.
The Knights (5-0) won the last five matches, scoring 22 points in the process.
EV won the league title outright last year and tied West Valley the year before. The Knights also won four consecutive titles, starting in 1989-90.
EV completes its season Thursday at home against WV.
Clarkston (4-1), which has already been beaten by EV, is the lone team that can tie the Knights. The Bantams put themselves in position with a 48-19 road win over WV (3-2).
Tyson Thivierge (178) of Clarkston notched a pin with 11 seconds left in his match. WV’s Quinn Sharp had a quick pin at 122.
Clarkston’s final meet, also Thursday, is against visiting Pullman.
At Pullman, Cheney 141-pounder Mike Gibson pinned Russ McKellips with seconds left in the second round to break a tie and give the Blackhawks (2-4) a 40-34 win. Cheney also picked up a big win at 101 when Brandon Tomage edged Mike Cassetto 14-10.
Cheney became the first team to complete its league schedule.
