UW Starts With Flurry, Finishes Off Sun Devils

Associated Press

Pac-10

The Washington Huskies built a 30-point lead in the first half, then held on to beat Arizona State 72-61 as the Sun Devils’ Jeremy Veal scored 25 of his 30 points in the second half Thursday night in Seattle.

Washington (11-5, 4-4 Pac-10) saw its seemingly insurmountable lead dwindle to nine points - 65-56 - when Veal scored on a fastbreak layup with 2:43 left.

The Sun Devils (10-10, 2-6) looked completely demoralized when the Huskies led 47-17 after two free throws by Chris Walcott with 1:15 left in the first half. But ASU outscored UW 44-25 the rest of the way.
