Boeing Lands Big Air Force Contract

Compiled From Wire Services

The Boeing Co. said Wednesday it has received a $216 million contract from the Air Force to upgrade defensive systems on the B-1B Lancer bomber.

Boeing, of Seattle, said it will engineer and manufacture a new defensive system for the bomber to increase its chances of survival in combat situations, Dow Jones News Service reported. The work will be done at Boeing plants in Seal Beach, Palmdale and Edwards Air Force base in California, and in Seattle and Oklahoma City.

Boeing, the world’s largest aircraft maker, had sales of $22.7 billion in 1996.
