Jet Skids To A Landing; Three Suffer Minor Injuries

Compiled From Wire Services

A Delta Air Lines plane with 154 people aboard skidded to a landing here Sunday, injuring three people, officials said.

Delta Flight 1470’s 148 passengers and six crew members were evacuated down an emergency chute, said Dennis Parker, assistant aviation director at Albuquerque International Sunport.

Delta spokeswoman Erin Flynn said three people suffered minor abrasions.

The Boeing 727 had been delayed when it left Dallas shortly before 5 p.m., officials said.

The airline is investigating to determine what caused the plane to skid, but passengers said the plane sounded like it had a problem with the landing gear.

“We started braking really, really hard. We heard a pop and there were sparks and smoke. We thought that was it,” said Ken Kinzie, 27, of Tijeras, N.M.

“We smelled the rubber from the tires or something, and I thought we were going to blow up.”
