UW Women’s Soccer Player Dies

By Associated Press

A preliminary autopsy conducted on the body of University of Washington soccer player Marisa Lyons failed to determine the cause of death, the King County medical examiner’s office says.

Further tests will be conducted, the office said Tuesday.

Lyons, 20, was a 1995 graduate of Tumwater High School and a member of the National Honor Society. She died Monday after collapsing at her apartment near the UW.

She played forward for the Huskies the past two seasons and would have been a junior this fall.

Lyons was apparently in good health and there was nothing obvious to explain why she collapsed, according to the medical examiner’s office.

“Marisa was a big part of our team,” said coach Lesle Gallimore.
