Ax Used In Trailer Break-In Outboard Motor Among Items Stolen

Janice Podsada Staff writer

A burglar used an ax to break the lock on a small travel trailer in the 27500 block of Mullinix Road, sheriff’s deputies report.

The burglary took place sometime between 7 p.m. June 29 and 7 a.m. June 30, while the owner was away, deputies said.

The owner told deputies he’s building a home on the property but doesn’t live there. He has nine small travel trailers on the site.

The burglar made off with several items, including a 14-inch television set, a VCR, IBM computer printer, a nine-horsepower outboard motor and a BB gun. The estimated value of the missing items is $1,000, deputies said.

Burglar takes software from home

A burglar broke into a home in the 1800 block of South Hatch Road on July 2 and stole hardware and computer software, sheriff’s deputies report.

The homeowner told deputies that missing items include a TV set, VCR, camcorder, video recorder, CD player, CDs, a comforter and two pillows.

The burglary occurred sometime between 6 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.

The intruder entered the home after using a rock to break a bedroom window, deputies said.

Dead line reveals break-in attempt

A burglary attempt was uncovered when a woman picked up her telephone and failed to get a dial tone, sheriff’s deputies said.

The woman alerted a neighbor after she checked the outside telephone cable box and found the phone lines had been cut, deputies report.

The neighbor contacted the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department about 7:30 a.m. June 29.

Deputies said they believe someone cut the lines in the cable box, located in the 5700 block of West Garden Springs Road, in an attempt to deactivate the security alarm at Williams Bros. Construction Inc.

When the suspect cut the lines, the neighbor’s phone was disconnected as well.

Deputies said they found a rock that was thrown through one of the company’s windows, fresh footprints, and fresh tire tracks.

Deputies said they think the rock set off a motion detector and scared away the would-be burglar.

There are no suspects in the case.
