Moscow Music Mixer Rendezvous In The Park Dishes Up A Smorgasbord Of Sound

Rock, country, jazz, blues and zydeco will splash over the Palouse as the 15th annual Rendezvous in the Park gets under way Friday in Moscow, Idaho.

Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie, Junior Brown, Charlie Musselwhite and Dee Daniels will headline four shows spread over two weekends at Moscow’s East City Park.

All shows start at 6 p.m. and last until 9:30 p.m. The schedule is as follows:

Friday: Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie break out a shake-your-behind, Cajun and zydeco tumult with a fresh touch of country and rock. Reggae artists Clinton Fearon and Boogie Brown Band open.

Saturday: Junior Brown is the master of mixing. Not only does he slice his country with rock ‘n’ roll, he blends his six-string guitar with his steel guitar. On Saturday check out his invention. Called a “guit-steel,” it finds the two aforementioned guitars literally joined as one. The Palouse’s own Hired Hands open.

July 18: Charlie Musselwhite is a blues harmonica legend with skills twice nominated for Grammy awards. A Mississippi-turned-Memphis son, Musselwhite grew up in a neighborhood full of musicians and went on to play with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, John Lee Hooker and John Hammond. The Duffy Bishop Band opens.

July 19: Jazz vocalist Dee Daniels, a favorite at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, brings her four-octave range to the Moscow stage. Although jazz is her mainstay, she also flirts with soul, scat and blues. Brazilian jazz ensemble Desafinado open.

Rendezvous for Kids is scheduled for Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Children 3 through 12 can participate in a variety of artistic activities. Workshops will include drama, dance chemistry and painting.

Tickets for individual musical performances in the park are $8 in advance and $10 at the gate. Rendezvous buttons are valid for admission to all performances and cost $25.
