Nina Culver Correspondent

Snorting bulls, lunging horses and colorful clowns will descend on Cheney this weekend for three days of riding and roping.

The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association-sanctioned event typically draws thousands of people to the Cheney Rodeo Grounds for their annual dose of saddle-bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping and barrel racing. Rodeo times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Kids under age 6 can participate in a scramble for balloons stuffed with prizes during the rodeo on Saturday and Sunday.

The festivities will kick off with an arts and crafts festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The booths will line First Street, Cheney’s main drag. Festival attendees will have front-row seats for the parade, which will travel down First beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Pony Express will provide live music for a dance after the rodeo on Friday and Saturday. Admission is $3 per person or $5 per couple.

The $9 advance tickets for the rodeo are available in Cheney at the Chamber of Commerce and the Cheney Free Press. Tickets are available in Spokane at the Boot Corral, Corral West, HAV Western Wear, Indiana Harness, RC Boot Barn and Will Rogers Western Wear.

For ticket locations in North Idaho, Airway Heights, Medical Lake and Fairchild, call the Cheney chamber at 235-8480.

Tickets will be $12 at the gate.

One child under the age of 12 per parent will get free admission to the rodeo on Sunday.

To reach the Cheney Rodeo Grounds from Spokane, take the Four Lakes exit off I-90. The site is located on Highway 904 just outside of Cheney.
