Orlando’s Scott Apologizes For His Outburst

Associated Press

Orlando Magic forward Dennis Scott apologized Tuesday for an outburst before a group of children at a summer camp in Virginia, saying he overreacted to a question about whether he has used drugs.

“At my own basketball camp, and in front of my 10-year-old (son) Ryan, I was asked whether I had engaged in drug use,” Scott said in a statement released Tuesday through his agent, David Falk.

“Naturally, I was both shocked and embarrassed that I was questioned about drugs in front of my son. Admittedly, I overreacted. I have offered refunds to all campers to make up for any disruptions that occurred.”

Magic general manager John Gabriel said Monday that Scott’s behavior and comments were unacceptable. He added that the player had not asked to be traded.

Jackson, Bulls at impasse

Phil Jackson has rejected the Chicago Bulls’ contract offer and team chairman Jerry Reinsdorf is asking to meet privately with the coach who has led the team to five NBA championships in seven years.

Jackson’s agent, Todd Musburger, said the Bulls had made an “insulting” offer that did not reflect Jackson’s worth. No more negotiations were scheduled for this week, Musburger said.
