Demoted Assistant Police Chief Retires

Capt. David Peffer retired Wednesday from the Spokane Police Department, ending 29 years on the force.

Peffer’s exit comes three months after he was demoted from assistant chief, a rank he held for nine years.

Police Chief Terry Managan ordered the demotion after Peffer, 51, was arrested March 16 for drunken driving.

Mangan refused to comment on Peffer’s decision to retire, effective immediately.
