Police Warn Residents About Phone Scam
Police are warning North Idaho residents of a possible telephone scam in which the caller offers the use of computer software for a promotional trial period.
To receive the software, the caller must pay shipping and handling costs with a credit card. Customers may choose to return the software or buy it for a discount price at the end of the trial period, they are told.
Several residents have reported being called by the salesman, who claims to be a computer software company employee, according to police. The caller has been described as persistent in his attempts to get credit card numbers over the phone.
Police advised residents not to give out their credit card number or information about their bank accounts over the phone if they are not familiar with the company.
