Flooded Homeowners Will Get Federal Aid

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Clinton administration has notified Gov. Phil Batt that homeowners in Jefferson and Bingham counties will receive individual assistance in recovering from this spring’s flooding.

Batt spokesman Frank Lockwood said owners of the more than 200 homes damaged by the raging waters will qualify for low interest loans and in some cases direct cash assistance.

A report by the Federal Emergency Management Agency sent to President Clinton earlier this month indicated that while over 250 homes were affected by flood water only 35 sustained serious damage.

At that time, however, officials pointed out that the administration had a relatively liberal record for extending aid to individual homeowners.

Millions of dollars in aid had previously been authorized to repair roads, bridges and other public facilities.
