Fontaine Signs With Italian Club
Isaac Fontaine’s first season of professional basketball won’t be played in the NBA.
Washington State’s all-time leading scorer has signed a contract with Scavolini Pesaro, an A1 division team in the Italian Basketball League.
Fontaine was passed over during the National Basketball Association draft in June, and was recently released by the Milwaukee Bucks after a free-agent tryout.
He was not available for comment, but his father, Isaac III, confirmed that his son agreed to contract terms last week.
Scavolini finished 10-16 last year in Italy’s A1 division and was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.
Oregonian paces Junior Amateur
Jason Allred of Ashland, Ore., shot a 3-under-par 67 on Tuesday to take the first-round lead in stroke-play qualifying for the 50th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship in Newtown Square, Pa.
Reid Hatley and Royal Stumph of Spokane shot 80 and 82, respectively.
The 156-player field will be cut to 64 for match play after the second round of qualifying. The 18-hole final is scheduled for Saturday.
