Idaho Football Team Acquires A New Quarterbacks Coach

Phil Earley, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, has been chosen to succeed Greg Olson as quarterbacks coach of the University of Idaho football team.

Earley, 40, had been at Cal Poly since 1994. Previously, he served as recruiting coordinator at Washington State University. He also has experience at Western Washington and Weber State after stints as a high school assistant at Port Angeles (Wash.) and Clover Park in Tacoma.

“Our goal was to find someone who had previous experience coaching quarterbacks in this system,” said Idaho coach Chris Tormey. “Phil has that and more.”

Earley admitted he was attracted by Idaho’s passing tradition. He and George Yarno, offensive coordinator for the Vandals, served together at WSU.

“I like to throw the ball and spread people and have some fun,” he said.

Jeff Lafferty’s RBI single for the Blue Devils broke a 5-5 tie in the sixth inning.

The Bandits won the first of two games with the Cannons at Jackson Field, recording an eight-inning 10-6 triumph that knotted the series 1-1.

Two runs scored on Rob Bartlett’s bunt, helping the Bandits break a 6-6 tie in the top of the eighth.

In a AA playoff series opener at Central Valley High School, Caleb Edwards had three hits and the Panorama Twins scored nine times in the second inning on their way to an 11-2 triumph over PAC of Clarkston.

Edwards belted a two-run double in the big inning, which included four hits, three errors and four walks.

In the other opener, Hess/Wheeler came from behind twice to defeat Spokane Athletic Supply 6-5.
