Rathdrum Looking For Civic Volunteers

From Staff Reports

Hoping to revitalize its business district and plan its economic future, the city of Rathdrum is seeking volunteers to serve on its Gem Community Steering Committee.

The Gem Community program is sponsored by the Idaho Department of Commerce. Involvement will make Rathdrum eligible for state grants, said Jan Hale, city planning administrator.

Population of the community in western Kootenai County has nearly doubled in the past seven years. Hale estimates the population is at least 3,800.

“We’re looking at a plan to possibly attract businesses to Main Street, and eventually look at historic preservation,” she said Thursday.

Hale would like prospective committee members to contact her before August. Her phone number is 687-3010; address, P.O. Box 67, Rathdrum 83858.

Once the committee is organized, Hale said a series of public workshops will be held. , DataTimes
