Tanker Truck Spill Closes Highway 23 For Several Hours

From Staff And Wire Reports

A tanker truck crashed on state Highway 23 just south of the Whitman County line Friday afternoon, spilling more than 5,000 gallons of fuel, the Washington State Patrol said.

The wreck and spill closed the highway for more than seven hours.

The WSP and state Ecology Department clean-up crews were still on the scene late Friday, troopers said.

The unidentified driver of the tanker was southbound on the highway shortly after 3 p.m., when the truck veered off the right shoulder, hit a drainage culvert and rolled.

The driver wasn’t injured, the WSP said.
