Olympic champion Josh Davis won the 200-meter freestyle in the Phillips 66 National Swimming Championships with a time of 1 minute, 49 seconds, the second-fastest in the world this year.

Davis of Austin, Texas, edged Chad Carvin of Laguana Hills, Calif., by 0.17 seconds in the first day of competition.

Kurt Grote, Jenny Thompson, Kristine Quance and Brook Bennett - also gold medalists last year in Atlanta - also won events.
