Chrysler To Build New Jeep Factory
Chrysler Corp. has decided to keep the Jeep in this Midwestern city where it was born and raised.
Chrysler Chairman Robert Eaton said Monday the automaker will spend $600 million to build a 1.1 million-square-foot factory adjacent to one of its two Toledo plants.
It also plans to spend another $600 million to upgrade the factory on that site and the paint shop at its second site.
Construction of the new factory tentatively is scheduled to begin in 1998, with production slated for 2001.
