Cheney High Classmates Destined To Be Trailblazers
‘Do not follow where the path leads; rather, go where there is no path and leave a trail.”
Frequently during the past three years, these words - our class motto - have echoed from the very walls of Cheney High. Time and again, we - the members of the Class of ‘97 - have heeded their call.
They will continue to ring far into the future, long past these days of life in high school.
Throughout our high school career, we’ve been witness to events that have made memories, events that will continue to inspire us for the rest of our lives.
Homecoming first united our motley group, drawing us together in the camaraderie of a year begun anew amid the excitement of the traditional school bonfire.
And truly, where else but Cheney can you find such diversity among students - from farming physicists to chemists in cowboy hats?
In such close proximity to the university we have also found the opportunity for new friendships and new experiences outside the high school.
Facing the move to college and work may have taxed our minds and our patience, but the presence of close friends from this vast diversity of students saw us through the trials of such life-changing matters.
From first-year orientation to senior prom, we’ve shared our thoughts, our dreams, our fears, our feelings, and we’ll never forget what these swift three years have given us.
And now we stand as leaves before the wind, born of a common tree but on the verge of being set aloft by a thousand different currents. Only time can say where we shall drift, but undoubtedly we will see these faces we knew and loved again.
Rest assured the paths in which we travel will not be random; we will be blazing them ourselves, every step of the journey.
Congratulations, graduates. May you be blazing trails well into the future.
