Bc Logging Protest

A one-two punch of falling profits and renewed environmental protest is jolting the forestry industry in British Columbia, Canada’s No. 1 logging province.

One of the biggest forest products companies, MacMillan Bloedel, announced a $10 million ($7.2 million U.S.) first quarter loss last week, the same day that Greenpeace announced the start of an international campaign against the province’s logging practices.

The prospect of renewed anti-logging protests this summer is likely to worsen the mounting economic difficulties for British Columbia forestry companies.
