Gumbel To Emcee Emmy Awards

From The Hollywood Reporter

Bryant Gumbel will host CBS’ broadcast of the 49th annual Primetime Emmy Awards competition on Sept. 14, days before the launch of the new TV season and Gumbel’s new CBS newsmagazine. CBS intends that the hosting gig will be a three-hour prime-time promotion for Gumbel’s prime-time show and hopes it will be seen by most of the 43 million viewers who tuned in to at least five minutes of last year’s Emmy broadcast.

The TV season starts on Sept. 22. Gumbel’s show, which is slated for Wednesdays at 9 p.m., probably will not debut the first Wednesday of the official TV season because CBS is scheduled to air the Country Music Awards that night.

Eubanks back on ‘Newlywed’

Out with the new, in with the old.

That’s the new format for syndicated game shows “The Dating Game” and “The Newlywed Game” as veteran game show hosts Chuck Woolery and Bob Eubanks take the helm of the programs in their second season. The move follows a first season for the new versions of the classic game shows that took a youthful angle with young hosts Brad Sherwood and Gary Kroeger, respectively. The combined package delivered less-than-buoyant national ratings.

Eubanks started as host of “The Newlywed Game” in 1966 and continued through most of the years up to 1988. Woolery hosted “Love Connection” for 11 seasons.
