Today’s The Deadline For Mailing Ballots

Today is the last day to mail ballots for the statewide referendum on a new football stadium for the Seattle Seahawks.

But send only one per voter, please.

Voters in Spokane, Pend Oreille, Ferry and Adams counties must have their ballots postmarked by midnight tonight. They won’t be voting at their traditional polling places today.

For voters in some counties - including Whitman, Walla Walla, Stevens, Lincoln and Asotin counties - today is the only day to go to the polls to cast their ballots. They also have the same postmark deadline of midnight tonight if they are voting by absentee ballot or if they live in a mail-in precinct.

Some Spokane County voters received a second ballot in the mail in the last week as the county tried to correct a problem with its address labeling system.

About 13,000 ballots sent to rural voters were returned earlier this month because they had been sent to street addresses of people who receive their mail in post office boxes.

Because the envelopes were marked “Do Not Forward,” many postmasters returned them to the courthouse.

Noel Elliot, assistant elections supervisor, said it’s unlikely anyone would be able to vote twice. Each ballot that arrives at the courthouse is checked for the proper signature. At the same time, the bar code on the envelope records that voter as having cast a ballot.
