Villwock Pilots Miss Bud To Thunder On The Ohio Win

Compiled From Wire Services

Dave Villwock in the Miss Budweiser won all his preliminary heats and the winner-take-all final Sunday in the Thunder on the Ohio hydroplane races, returning the team to the dominance it enjoyed during the early 1990s off this city’s waterfront.

“There’s a lot of fast boats here, and the water gets rough in the final, so you’ve just got to drive your heart out and hope you bring your boat in on top,” Villwock said as he stepped from his cockpit to hug his crew. The race is worth just under $150,000.

Mark Evans aboard the Pico American Dream managed to pass Mark Tate in the Close Call during a tightly fought race for second.

Villwock’s speed during the final was 140.616 mph, and the victory pushed him to 3,465 points for the season.
