Bombs Seized, But Link To Atlanta Unlikely

There were no nails or timing devices with the 16 bombs seized from a man’s home in this rural community, leading deputies to believe he may just be a country boy who tinkered with gun-powder and fuses.

Police have not yet interviewed Mark Turner, 31, but do not believe he is connected to the Atlanta bombings of a gay and lesbian nightclub and an abortion clinic.

“I don’t think it’s common but I wouldn’t say it’s uncommon for people to experiment or play” with explosives, Carroll County Sheriff Tony Reeves said Saturday.

Turner was arrested Friday after a shootout with deputies who tracked him down after the theft of propane tanks from a nearby grocery store.
