Mother Drowns Twins, Stabs Self, Police Say

A mother drowned her 3-1/2-year-old twins in the bathtub before stabbing herself Saturday, authorities said.

Annette Giancola, 37, was in critical condition at a Youngstown hospital with a knife wound to her chest.

She called her husband at work and told him that she had drowned their children, Jonathan and Rebecca, Mahoning County Sheriff Phil Chance said. John Giancola rushed home and found his wife semiconscious on the kitchen floor. The twins were dead in the upstairs bathtub, Chance said.

Annette Giancola was seeing a psychiatrist for depression, Chance said.
