The Fate Of World Is In Your Hands

Roy Bassave Knight-Ridder

The game: Independence Day

Formats: Sony PlayStation, Sega Saturn, Windows 95.

Estimated selling price: $49-$55, Fox Interactive.

Category: First-person shooter.

Players: One to four.

Recommended ages: Rated KA (Kids to Adults), but really for 10 and up.

How the game works: Strap into the seat of a jet fighter and get ready to kick some alien butt as you lead the battle to stop the menacing aliens who are wiping out Earth, city by city. Don’t choke - the fate of the world is in your hands!

Inspired by Twentieth Century Fox’s “Independence Day,” Fox Interactive unleashes a high-velocity, arcade-style thriller that brings all of the movie’s blockbuster energy and excitement up-close and personal.

Blaze through real-time 3D cityscapes and locales in a high-flying, death-defying race to prevent global annihilation. Along the way, you’ll pilot 10 of the world’s greatest jet fighters, including the F/A 18 Hornet and the F-15 Eagle, and even the captured alien spacecraft from Area 51.

Your mission: Go head-to-head with alien attack fighters, whizzing all around you like mosquitoes, and take out the fleet of massive City Destroyers poised to obliterate mankind.

Once you put all the City Destroyers out of commission, you must set your sights on the orbiting Alien Mothership for the final, explosive showdown. Your fight for freedom starts over the Grand Canyon, then moves to other real-world locations like New York, Tokyo, Paris, Moscow, even Antarctica!

Bank hard left or right to avoid the bogeys hot on your tail. Fly over and around buildings, roll down into canyons and cruise alongside roadways to avoid alien firepower and collect pick-ups for more ammo, repairs and alien weapons, including The Big Ray Gun.

Features five view perspectives inside and outside the cockpit, with detailed on-screen displays.

Good points, bad points: “ID” takes the movie experience a step further by allowing you to go head-to-head with other gamers using network links on PCs and link cables for PlayStation consoles. Arcade-style game play lets you dive right into the action.

Tips: Keep your eyes peeled and listen to your radio closely. Your trusty wingman will watch your tail and guide you in completing the specific mission objectives for each level. For more information, visit Fox Interactive at http:/ /www.foxinteractive.com.

The verdict: “ID” delivers a “seat of your pants” flying experience. The most fun since “Top Gun.”
