Alone In The Spotlight: Isn’t It Just A Bit Ironic?

Compiled By Staff Writer Dan Web

The world is full of one-hit wonders. Remember Brewer & Shipley (“One Toke Over the Line”)? Remember The Standells (“Dirty Water”)? Remember Debby Boone (“You Light Up My Life”)? There’s no way that Alanis Morissette can be considered a one-hit anything, considering the hit-making success of her debut album “Jagged Little Pill.” But some music-scene observers are wondering.

Morissette no-showed at the Grammys and American Music Awards. Anxiety over her next CD, says New York magazine, has caused her to “just shut herself up in her house.”

Morissette’s spokespeople say baloney. “She’s just on vacation getting ready to start work on her next album,” they say.

Loose talk

Rolling Stone Mick Jagger, 53, overheard at the Miramax postOscars party: “Last night was a party. Saturday night was a party. Friday night was a party. I’m going to bed.”

At his celebration, they spare no expense

Richard Kiley turns 75 today.

No doubt Sheryl Crow would agree with him

Aerosmith is selling copies of its new six-track EP, “Made in America,” only at Wal-Mart. At least one music-store owner, Bill Sowers of Oneida, N.Y., is retaliating by dumping all his Aerosmith stock. “It’s not a big thing. I’m not going to hurt Aerosmith. I’m not going to hurt Columbia Records,” said Sowers. “It’s just something we decided to do because we felt they were doing it to us.”

There’s a certain plastic surgeon he should sue as well

This just in: Television producer Aaron Spelling is suing the contractors who built his 56,500-square-foot, 100-room Hollywood domicile. The reason: the roof leaks. Spelling wants $5 million in compensatory damages, plus punitive damages for alleged bad workmanship.

It’s located on Melrose Place - the full length of it

By the way, the house referred to in the Aaron Spelling item above, is longer than a football field, has a bowling alley, gym, an entire floor devoted to closets, and an eight-car garage.

His favorite comic strip is, of course, ‘Adam’

It comes as no surprise that Parker Stevenson (“The Hardy Boys”) has filed for divorce from former “Cheers” actress Kirstie Alley. What is somewhat surprising is that the 44-year-old actor is seeking spousal support. Stevenson and Alley, 42, have two children, ages 4 and 2.

The sun’ll come out… well, maybe not tomorrow

Backers of Broadway’s “Annie” revival fired Joanna Pacitti to hire Patti Abbott-Claffy for the title role. Bad move, say the reviewers. The musical resembles “a cake that has been sitting in the back of an ancient icebox too long: It’s frozen and impossible to swallow,” wrote the New York Times. And Abbott-Claffy? She “lacks sparkle.”
