Anderson Leads Blazers By L.A.
The Portland Trail Blazers ruined the Lakers’ bid for a first-round playoff sweep Wednesday night, burying Los Angeles early with Kenny Anderson’s 17-point first-quarter barrage, then withstanding a remarkable fourth-quarter rally for a 98-90 victory at Portland.
The Blazers pulled to 2-1 in the best-of-5 series, and they can even it by beating the Lakers again Friday.
The Blazers took control of Game 3 from the opening tip, then saw a 31-point third-quarter lead melt to six in the final period.
The Blazers led by 18 in the first quarter, 26 in the second and were up 69-38 after Isaiah Rider sank a 3-pointer with 7:58 left in the third.
Anderson, who had Portland’s only field goal of the fourth quarter, made his first eight field-goal tries and had a career playoff high of 30 points.
Shaquille O’Neal outscored Blazers center Arvydas Sabonis 29-0.

Michael Jordan brought the Bulls back from a nine-point deficit in the closing minutes before Scottie Pippen sank a driving dunk with 7.4 seconds left, giving Chicago a three-game sweep.
Chicago rallied from a 90-81 deficit to take a 94-93 lead on a jumper by Jordan with 1:12 left. Neither team scored again until Juwan Howard was fouled chasing a rebound, and his two foul shots put Washington up 95-94 at 22.1 seconds.
Jordan then lost the handle on the ball while going up for a shot, but Pippen gained control and drove the baseline for a jam while being fouled by Harvey Grant. He missed the foul shot, then Calbert Cheaney’s 20-footer at the buzzer was an airball.
