Big Brothers/Big Sisters To Benefit From Home Run Derby
A home run derby will be held May 24 as a fund-raiser for Big Brothers/Big Sisters in Coeur d’Alene.
The derby will be held at McEuen Field, beginning at noon and concluding at 5 p.m. Each attempt will cost $1. A pitching machine will be used.
High school sports physicals for the 1997-98 school year will be given May 19 at Coeur d’Alene High School’s Viking Gym at 6 p.m.
Area physicians and medical personnel will be on hand to give physicals to boys and girls. All incoming freshmen and juniors need to have a physical on file before fall sports tryouts.
Cost is $10. Proceeds benefit the physical training departments at Coeur d’Alene and Lake City high schools.
Stack commits
Toby Stack, dismissed from the North Idaho College men’s basketball team in January, has orally committed to play at Montana State-Northern.
During a road trip, Stack was charged with theft of lost property, attempted unlawful use of a credit card and giving false information for a police report, police in Price, Utah, said.
Stack, a 6-foot guard, was an all-state selection at Loyola High in Missoula before coming to NIC.
UI tennis honors
University of Idaho tennis players Claudia Leigh and Katrina Burke have been honored by the Big West Conference.
Leigh was voted to the singles first team and Burke made the second team. The two were selected to the doubles second team.
Boise State won the Big West Tournament last weekend by defeating Idaho.
Hawks play ‘Fame’ game
The Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings will start the 1997 NFL preseason July 26 in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game.
The game, held the same day as the Hall of Fame inductions in Canton, Ohio, will be the first of three that day in the 64-game preseason schedule unveiled by the league.
The Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers will host the Miami Dolphins, and the Denver Broncos will host the Chicago Bears in the other opening-day games.
