No Damage When Bus Slides Off Road
An East Valley school bus slid off a dirt road earlier this week. No children were on the bus and no damage occurred, district officials said.
“We even drove it this morning,” Doug Sander, head of transportation for the East Valley School District, said Wednesday.
The incident happened Tuesday afternoon on Campbell Road, north of Trent Avenue.
A county grader had been working on Campbell recently, and its back end went off the edge of the road at the same embankment.
When the bus slid off the embankment, its driver was trying to stay well over to allow passage of an oncoming car, Sander said.
Apparently the bus found the same soft spot as the grader, he said.
A county road supervisor, however, who examined the site believed that the bus driver may have been traveling too fast, Hutson said.
Sander said he did not believe that speed was a factor.
