Pregnant Woman Survives Leap

From Staff And Wire Reports

A pregnant woman escaped an explosive apartment fire by leaping out of her second-floor window as the blaze raced through the building.

Rebecca White, 18, who is seven months pregnant, broke her back and an ankle bone when she landed. She was taken to Tacoma General Hospital where she was listed in satisfactory condition. Her unborn child is unharmed.

She was one of 11 people in the building that escaped the early morning fire Sunday.

Tacoma Fire Department officials said the fire that struck the two-story apartment building was suspicious.
