Ownbey Fans 10 As Post Falls Advances

James Ownbey struck out 10 Tuesday to guide Post Falls over visiting Sandpoint 4-2 in an A-1 Region I baseball playoff.

Post Falls, the fourth seed out of the Inland Empire League, advances to a 4 p.m. Thursday game at Coeur d’Alene. Sandpoint, seeded fifth, was eliminated.

The Trojans broke from a 1-all tie with a three-run fifth inning charged by five consecutive hits.

D.J. Eberlin pitched a no-hitter and hit a three-run homer in the fifth as the Lumberjacks eliminated the visiting Spartans in an A-2 District I-II opener.

Eberlin struck out eight and walked four. Jason Bierman hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Ty Konkright a two-run double in the first.

Track and field

The host Lakeland Hawks won the girls Intermountain League title by beating St. Maries 94-48 and tying Priest River 73-73.

Lakeland won four relays and dominated the jumps, with Amber Jamison winning the triple jump (33 feet, 10 inches) and finishing second in the long jump (15-9), and Jessica Banbury winning the long jump (15-11).

Missy Ennis helped Priest River to the tie by winning the 100-meter run (13.36 seconds), the 200 (27.59), the 400 (1:01.46) and the high jump (5-2).

Lakeland’s boys won twice, to finish second in the IML behind Moscow.

Levi Cushman won the discus (134-6) and shot put (43-11) for Lakeland. Jeremy Badgett of St. Maries won the 800 (2:09.5) and 1,600 (5:22.56).

Golf

Medalist Kaleb Krebs led St. Maries to a win over Kellogg and Wallace as the Lumberjacks wrapped up the IML title at 4-1.
