Chinese Ban Cloning Of Humans

Associated Press

China’s leading institute of scientific research has banned the cloning of humans.

In announcing the ban by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, vice president Xu Zhihong said the cloning of a sheep by Scottish scientists presented a dilemma for scientists trying to clone cows and rats and using cloning to research hereditary diseases.

“Banning the use of cloning to copy human beings is absolutely necessary to maintain ethical morality, which holds together today’s human society,” the state-run Xinhua News Agency quoted Xu as saying.

The biologist called for a committee to set standards for cloning animals.
