Sasquatch Fall Short In Title Bid
Community Colleges of Spokane was its own worst enemy in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges softball championship game Saturday in Portland.
The Sasquatch committed five errors that led to four unearned runs as Clackamas turned back CCS 4-2 to gain its second consecutive championship.
CCS dropped a 4-3 decision to Clackamas in its first game of the day.
CCS made it to the championship game by defeating Lower Columbia 5-3.
Holly Vanwert spotted the Red Devils three first-inning runs before settling down to pitch a complete game for her 15th win of the season.
Rogers graduates Traci Moore and Shannon Zahrowski, along with Mead grads Marci Meddock and Vanwert were named to the all-tournament team. CCS ended its season with a 37-9 record.

Baseball
Community Colleges of Spokane swept an NWAACC doubleheader from visiting Wenatchee by scores of 5-4 and 15-2 Saturday.
In the opener, Rudy Zarfas stroked a pinch-hit three-run double in the bottom of the sixth to propel the Sasquatch to a come-from-behind win.
In the nightcap, Gavin Hare and Troy Maxwell each had two hits during a nine-run Sasquatch onslaught in the first inning.

Track and Field
Stanford’s Tracye Lawyer and California’s Ross Bomben each won three events to take the first-day lead at the Pac-10 Multi-Event Championships at Husky Stadium in Seattle.
Lawyer racked up 3,476 points in the heptathlon competition. Bomben amassed 3,875 points in the decathlon.
Washington State’s Heidi Shultz (2,802) was fifth in the heptathlon.
Crew
Gonzaga placed fifth in the women’s novice 8 at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships on Saturday.
The University of California at Davis won the event by a 4-second margin over Sacramento State.
