Youth Congress Set To Tackle Race Relations Around Region

Attention Middle School and High School Teachers, Students and Parents:

“Dreams Into Reality,” Spokane’s first Community Congress on Race Relations will take place Tuesday at the Spokane Convention Center. The event aims at promoting equality and diversity throughout the Inland Northwest. The program will include entertainment, artwork and education designed especially for young people. Large groups are welcome. Students can obtain proof of attendance, but space is limited. To make a reservation for the Youth Congress, call 625-6266.

Are you concerned about how the media influences society? The Washington State Conference on Teen Health and Media Literacy will be Thursday and Friday in Seattle. The keynote speakers will be David Considine, a leader in the media literacy movement, and Fred Garcia from the U.S. Department of Justice. Enrollment is limited. How can you help a friend with a drug or alcohol problem? What are the warning signs? Can teens really get away with buying beer? You can learn the answers to these questions and more by becoming a peer educator. A helpful new service for teens is now available on the South Hill in Spokane. Pacific Educational Services provides assistance with the college application and selection process, career planning and S.A.T. preparation.
