Bull Trout Meetings Open To The Public
State environment and fisheries experts are inviting the public to meetings on strategies to save the dwindling runs of bull trout in Idaho.
The first meeting was held Tuesday in St. Maries. Additional meetings are scheduled this week and next week in Coolin, Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is expected to soon list the bull trout under the Endangered Species Act.
Meanwhile, the state is moving forward with Gov. Phil Batt’s Bull Trout Conservation Plan, which established Basin Advisory Groups and Technical Advisory Teams to develop strategies for saving the fish.
People interested in serving on a bull trout advisory group are encouraged to attend the meetings, which are being held in each watershed where the fish are present.
The meetings are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. today at the Inn at Priest Lake in Coolin, 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Federal Building in Sandpoint, and 5:30 p.m. May 28 at the Extension Office in Bonners Ferry.
