Officials Identify Couple Killed In Small Plane Crash

From Staff And Wire Reports

A California couple killed Saturday when their plane crashed in the Deschutes National Forest were identified as William and Susanne Isaacs.

The couple from Danville, Calif., were heading to Bend where they planned to build a house, said Deschutes County sheriff’s search and rescue coordinator Dave Dobler.

Their Piper Turbo Saratoga went down about 12:30 p.m. in dense forest, seven miles south of Bend.

The pilot hadn’t mentioned any trouble before the Federal Aviation Administration in Seattle lost radar and voice contact with the small plane at about the same time.

Golfers at Lost Tracks Golf Course and residents who heard the crash gave vague directions, making pinpointing the plane difficult.

An Air Life of Oregon plane spotted the crash site and circled overhead, guiding rescuers who hiked in or used four-wheel-drive vehicles.
