Teenager Beaten, Robbed By Two Men
A 16-year-old boy was beaten and robbed by two men Sunday at a bus stop at the corner of Wellesley and Crestline.
The boy, whose name was not released by police, was treated and release by paramedics. He had face and head wounds from the beating.
He told police two men, in their late teens or early 20’s, approached him as he waited for a bus. The men accused him of “mean mugging,” and began beating him with their fists and a piece of metal, he reported.
The men escaped in a new-model Suburban. The boy described the suspects as black, about 6 feet tall with medium builds.
Police are still investigating.
Teenage couple robbed
A masked, armed man robbed a North Spokane teenage couple early Sunday.
Police report the man confronted the couple about 1 a.m. Sunday at the corner of Maple and Broadway.
The suspect was described as in his early 20’s, about 5-feet-5, 140 pounds and wearing a black sweat shirt and blue jeans.
He demanded the boy’s wallet and the girl’s backpack. When they hesitated, the man pointed a handgun at them and then disappeared into the neighborhood, police report.
Man arrested for growing pot
A man told police he started growing and selling marijuana to cover the costs of having a baby.
Brian Cassidy was arrested last week after police found about 35 plants and a growing system in his attic. His wife, who is pregnant, was not arrested, police said.
The 28-year-old North Side man told police he had used pot for several years, but became involved in the business when his wife got pregnant.
Money stolen in store robbery
An armed man robbed Galore Paging Cellular, 3038 N. Monroe, last week, taking money but not any electronics.
The robber, accompanied by another man, visited the store earlier, asking about buying a pager. He returned by himself after a few moments and showed a handgun, police report.
The robber was described as black, 6-feet-2 and 180 pounds.
He just wanted to use the phone
A 17-year-old man told Spokane police a woman stabbed him in the back after he asked her to finish her phone call so he could use a pay phone.
The man told police he was waiting near Broadway and Nettleton about 3:30 a.m. May 20 to use the phone when he asked the suspect to “hurry up” with her call.
The woman pulled out a knife, stabbed him in the back and then left on foot, police said.
The man, who was treated for a 1-inch cut and released, refused to give police a description of the woman.
