Woman Dies In Collision On Argonne

A 54-year-old woman died in a Wednesday morning car wreck in eastern Spokane County, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The collision occurred about 7:10 a.m. on Argonne Road, about 1-1/2 miles north of Bigelow Gulch Road.

Esther Adler of Spokane was driving her 1988 Honda Civic station wagon north on Argonne when she crossed the center line, troopers said.

She collided with a southbound 1990 Toyota pickup driven by 43-year-old Rick Hayes, a Spokane police officer who lives in Elk.

Adler died at the scene from massive head and internal injuries, troopers said.

Hayes and his 21-year-old son, Adam, injured their heads and backs in the wreck and were taken by ambulance to Deaconess Medical Center. Their injuries were not life-threatening, and they were expected to be released late Wednesday.

A third car, driven by 43-year-old Ruby Busch of Elk, was hit by the spinning pickup, but Busch wasn’t hurt.
